JWS signing algorithm (RFC 7518, RFC 8725 §3.1).

All four variants parse out of header strings, but only EdDSA is implemented by the signature verifier today. JwtConfig::with_algorithms rejects non-EdDSA values at construction time so a misconfigured operator sees the failure before the first token arrives. RS256 and ES256 are reserved for a future release.

Variants

HS256

HMAC-SHA256 (symmetric). Avoid for asymmetric protocols.

RS256

RSASSA-PKCS1-v1_5 with SHA-256.

ES256

ECDSA with P-256 and SHA-256.

EdDSA

Ed25519.
